Halloween App

Evolving “Trick and Treat” into a an app design treat with no “bumps in the night” on handover to third party developers!

Icon and Component Design
App Screen Design

The KAT team have been commission to design and develop an app for a Halloween Trail.

All that existed of the app was a logo, designed by the Graphic Designer and an idea of how the trail would work on a Word doc that the Product Owner had created.

It was up to me to create the user flow, brand, icons and app screens to present to the rest of the team so that we could get the app into development with a third party developer.

Approach:

The Product owner and I had discussed how the app would work but to identify anything that needed to be added or moved, I created the app flow. I started off on paper and then created a digital version that would go to the developer.

I started this process by looking at other apps, including apps that I have on my phone, researched best practises and checked with the KAT developer that the flow I had created was in a format that would explain the flow and functionality of the app.

Whilst the flow and functionality documents were with the third party developer, I set to work on the brand and assets for the app. The Graphic Designer had created a logo which was designed to go on a black background with white and orange text.

I wanted to introduce some neon green to be the main accent colour of the app and designed a colour palette to compliment this.

I created Halloween icons for the app buttons and states in Illustrator and designed the screens in Figma.

I animated some of the components in Photoshop (they are simple sub 10 frame animations) and gave all of the components including the icon over to the third party developer. I look forward to reviewing the mvp!
